Poricha kozhambu

My mother use to make this kozhambu(kootu)slightly different than the usual ones.she used to add lot of vegetables and colour to it.In the traditional method i think people used Vazhaikai,Avaraikai,kathirikai, and Pudalangai to make this kozhambu.she used to make it with carrot,beans,peas,cauliflower,potato,tomato,chowchow or banglore kathirikai. I have also used those vegetables and made it .





Ingredients

Tur dal
1 cup
Chow chow
1
carrot
2
Beans
10
peas
1/4cup
potato
1
cabbage
1/4cup
cauliflower
1big floret
salt

Turmeric powder
1/2tsp


To roast and grind



Urad dal
2tbs
Red chillies
10
Peppercorns
10
Asafoetida
1/2tsp
Coconut scraped
2tbs


To season

Gingelly oil
2tbs
Mustard seeds
1tbs
Red chillies
2
Urad dal
1tsp
Curry leaves
few


Method

1.Roast  the things listed in the above table in one spoon of gingelly oil.



2.Grind it along with one spoon of cumin seeds into a coarse powder.



3.pressure cook the tur dal in the pressure cooker for 3 whistles.                                                     
4.Boil the vegetables with turmeric powder and salt.
5.When the vegetables are cooked soft add the powder.
6.Add the cooked tur dal,allow it to boil for two minutes.

                                                                                                                        

7.Season with the things listed in the table with the rest of the gingelly oil and add some lime juice if you like.
