Cut mango pickle/Venthaya mangai oorukai

This is the most simple and easy pickle to make .You can use the long mangoe variety (kili mooku) which is not very sour.It is also called milagai manga or venthaya manga pickle because  we add red chillies  and fenugreek seeds(powder)(fenugreek is called vendhayam in Tamil and red chillies are called Milagai in Tamil).It is a perfect combination for curd rice especially in summer when lot of these mangoes are available.


To taste
Gingelly Oil
Mustard seeds
Chilli powder
Roast and ground

Fenugreek seeds
Red chillies
Dry roast red chillies and fenugreek seeds,powder it and keep it.You cannot use all of them just a little for this pickle.

1.Wash and cut the mango in to small blocks.

2.Put it in a glass bowl and add salt, chilli powder and asafoetida.
3.Mix well and add  1/2 spoon of roast and powdered chilli and fenugreek  powder.                            

  4.Heat oil in a pan crackle mustard seeds and pour over the mangoes.Allow it to settle for sometime and store it in a dry glass bottle.

5.Store it in the refrigerator if you want to keep it for more than a day.

Vendhaya mangai oorukai was so good and it was so suitable for curd rice and sambar rice. i would like to know how to prepare thenkasi oorukai with mango. pls send the receipe to my email address if you know it. thank you.
