Ginger Juice/Ingi sorasam

After all the sweets and savouries for diwali now i think it is time to have some digestive which will get our system back to normal.Yes  Ginger juice or "Ingi sorasam"as my mother used to call it is more a digestive than a juice. It is very popular in Thanjavur district.
My mom used to make it every month and we used to have it in a empty stomach..It is  a cure for  indigestion too.I love ginger and lemon. Those who love ginger will definitely like it.

Adhirasam Recipe

Adhirasam is a very traditional sweet made during diwali and south Indian weddings only.It is a long process so it is not made very often at home.We occassionally buy a small pkt of adhirasam from grand snacks and satisfy the craving.
This time i thought let me try making this myself and post it.I did everything totally relaxed. The dough has 24 hours standing time so it was actually litte easy.
Two things are important for this recipe one is home made rice flour which i have shown in so many recipes and the other is pagu vellam which you can buy in stores.

Boondi Ladoo|Diwali Sweet Recipe

Boondi Ladoo is the most popular Indian sweet made during diwali and weddings. The ladoos are made little different in North and South India. The north Indian ladoo is orange in colour and the boondis are really small and it is called the "Motichur Ladoo".The south Indian ladoo is yellow in colour and the boondis are slightly bigger. We like both the Ladoos and the best of all is the Thirpathi Ladoo any day!!!!!
I used to get terrified thinking of making these Ladoos and Jangiris for many years!!!!but thanks to the fellow bloggers and their way explaining, which made it easy for me to make these tough ones easily.I hope few people benefit seeing my blog and make their sweets and enjoy.
Ladoos have always had a affinity to our family. My Father in law used to call my kids "Ladoo Kanna"when they were little and when they grew up a little and when they started talking they started calling him "Ladoo thatha"and later on it became "Ladoo" his pet name!!!!
so whenever we think of Ladoos we cannot miss thinking about him!!!!!!(ladoo thatha).

Mullu Murukku/Mullu Thenkuzhal

During festival time my house used to be so busy the maid used to go to the flour mill everyday to grind some murukku mavu for my mom.Now a days there are lots of things conveniently available in the stores.I made this easy Mullu Murukku version. It is one of my favourite murukkus because it is a little spicy than the normal thenkuzhal. It is a easy murukku made during diwali time and of course it is a perfect snack at tea time.

MochaKottai Sundal/Navrathri Sundal Recipes

Today being first day of Navrathri I decided to make Mochakottai or Mochai paruppu Sundal.I didn't know the order in which sundal has to be made which day which sundal but coincidentally first day of Navrathri you make Mochai paruppu sundal.Sundal recipes are very easy to make if you only you plan it a little earlier.I soaked the mochai paruppu the previous night itself and then pressure cooked it and prepared the Sundal for neivedhyam.

Akkaravadisal

Akkaravadisal is a popular Iyengar sweet. You must have tasted it in a lot of vaishnav temples as prasadam. It is similar to sarkarai pongal except that it is cooked in water for sarkarai pongal whereas the Rice and Dal are cooked in milk for Akkaravadisal. In the original recipe, it is sweetened with Jaggery while I have used Sugar. You can use either one.

Payatham Paruppu Payasam

Payatham Paruppu or Paasi Paruppu payasam(yellow Moong dal) is the easiest paruppu payasam to make.Today being Friday of Tamil Aadi Masam I made this Payasam. My daughter loves payasam with Jaggery. This payasam is made in most of the festivals at home.It is also called "Payatham Kanji"and made on fasting days especially on sivarathri.(while  making payatham kanji ususally they do not add cardamom powder)
I have added milk to this payasam you can either add milk or coconut milk to it.If you are adding coconut milk do not heat it too much after adding the coconut milk.

Baked Curry Puffs

"Baked Curry Puff "- You can call it a Puff, Calzone or Empanadas. It is bread dough with a filling of your choice. I made potato and peas curry for the stuffing, but you can use your imagination and make stuffing with paneer, peas or mixed vegetable.
Whatever be the stuffing it is a real treat for the children. It could be a perfect children's party snack too.You could prepare the filling and the dough keep it ready and just bake it when the party begins and enjoy the hot and fresh puffs.

Karadayan Nombu Adai

Karadayan nombu is celebrated by the Tamil Brahmins when the Tamil month of masi is ending and the begining of panguni masam. It is done to pray for the long life of the husband. There is a story of sathyavan and savithri behind this how she fought with yama to bring him back to life.

The pooja or Naivedhaym is done before the panguni masam starts. It comes at different time of the day every year.We used put small kolam on the floor near the pooja room (in east direction)spread a small banana leaf serve two adais of each(sweet and salt)with some butter and keep a vetrilai pakku.

The sastrigal usually gives a yellow thread(Nombu saradu) few days before the nombu and we usually tie some flowers and if possible some fresh Turmeric piece we usually get during pongal time.
We tie it around the neck and pray to god and offer the adais to god and eat those adais and keep one adai of each in a plate specially for the husband.
We make two types of adais one is sweet and the other is salt.In some houses they make only sweet. It is usually made with rice flour either made at home or store bought one.let us see how i made these.
