MASAL VADAI/Masal vada

Masal vadai is the most popular south Indian street food. You can find in most of the Tea shops in Tamil Nadu. When I Walk across the Tea shop where they are making these vadas the smell is so tempting. It sells so fast that it is just wrapped up in a newspaper and parceled.
It is a perfect evening snack with a cup of hot Tea on a rainy day or it could be a appetizer.

You will Need
  • One cup Kadalai parrupu(channa dal)
  • 6-8 Red chillies
  • 10 Small onions chopped
  • Few Curry leaves
  • Few coriander leaves
  • One tbs Fennel Seeds
  • Salt to taste

How You Make It
1.Soak (channa dal)kadalai paruppu, red chillies, curry leaves for forty five minutes.
2.Grind it along with salt in to a coarse paste(keep aside a handful of channa dal). After grinding add chopped small onions(sambar vengayam if it is not available use big onions),Coriander leaves and mix well.
3.Crush the fennel seeds and add it to the dough.
4.Do not add too much water while grinding as it will absorb too much oil.make a ball out of the dough spread it in your palm in a circle and drop it in hot oil one by one  and fry till brown.
5.Heat oil in a deep pan and fry four to five vadas at a time.Keep the flame in medium. If kept in high the outer portion will become dark and inside will not be cooked.

6.Serve as an appetizer or evening snack with coconut chutney.
