Sabudana Khichidi

Sabudana Khichidi is made from Sago(we call it Javarisi). It is made during navrathri days and during fasting days.It is very popular in Maharashtra. The addition of Peanuts and potato makes it a whole and filling meal while fasting.
Once in a while I make it for breakfast in my house because i don't really observe any fasting. My kids are not very fond of sago because of its gooey nature.I have made this khichidi with two different types of sago one is big which requires more soaking time and the other smaller one needs only half an hour soaking time.

You will Need

  • One cup Sabudana or Sago
  • One potato(diced)
  • One Tsp Cumin seeds
  • Two Tbs Roasted Peanuts
  • One to two Green chillies
  • Juice from half a Lemon
  • One tbs Oil or Ghee
  • One tsp Chopped Coriander Leaves
  • Few Curry Leaves

How to

  • Wash sago until the starch is gone Soak it  for 5 to 6 hours or overnight.drain it well without any water otherwise it will get mushy.

  • Heat oil in a pan crackle cumin seeds, add green chilli and curryleaves.

  • Add chopped potato and little salt and cook till potatoes are soft.

  •  Roast the peanuts cool and powder it in to a coarse powder.

  •  Add the washed sago to the cooked potato and give it a good toss.

  •  Add the peanut powder and some more salt and mix well.

  • Add chopped coriander leaves, lemon juice and serve hot.

Notes
  • You can use red chillies instead of green
  • You can add a tsp of sugar to enhance the taste.
  • Depending on the variety of sago decide the soaking time.
