Murukku

After seeing all the posts for krishna jayanthy i got too tempted to make Murukku.I saw this ready made flour in the shop so just got it and made it immediately.Let us see how i made it.

You Will Need

  • One pkt of Readymade Murukku mavu
  • 50gms of melted Butter
  • One tsp of Cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Water to knead
  • Oil for deep frying
How to
1.Empty the pkt in a large bowl.Mix it with salt, butter, cumin seeds and make it tin to a soft dough.
2.Use the single star plate in the murukku maker and fill up the mavu.
3.Rotate the murukku maker in circles and make the murukku on a laddle.
4.Drop it in the hot oil carefullly without breaking and fry for five minutes of until it becomes light brown in colour.(wait for it to become little brown it turns out super crispy).
5.Dry it in a tissue paper and store in a air tight container after it comes to room temperature.
One 500 gms pkt of mavu yielded approximately 30 murukkus.

Hi Seetha you can use the following substitution:

3 cups besan flour, 1 1/2 cups rice flour, 1 tsp ghee or oil, 1 tsp cumin powder, 1/2 tsp red chill powder, 1/4 tsp asafoetida(optional), 1 tablespoon seasame seed (optional) 1 tsp salt (or to taste), Mix the ingredients to a pliable dough using sufficient water, and pass it through a murukku maker into coils onto a plate or tray. Then take it off the plate and put it into hot oil and fry for about three minutes.
