Bhindi Masala/Okra Masala Curry

                                                                    Bhindi Masala is a North Indian dry curry with Lady's finger sauteed with onion,tomatoes and Indian spices.It is simple and easy to make and tastes great with any flat bread especially the thin phulkas.This curry isusually made in Punjabi style in most of the restaurants.




You will Need

  • 250gms of Okra or Lady's finger
  • Two Chopped Onions
  • Two Chopped Tomatoes
  • One tsp Cumin Seeds
  • One fourth tsp of Turmeric Powder
  • One tsp of Chilli Powder
  • One tsp Garam Masala Powder
  • Half a tsp Cumin Powder
  • Half a tsp Coriander Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Two Tbs of Oil


How to

  • Cut Lady's finger into one inch pieces.Heat a pan with a tsp of oil and saute the lady's finger pieces and fry for few minutes.



  • Heat rest of the oil in a pan and crackle cumin seeds.Add the chopped onions and fry till transculent.


  • Add chopped tomatoes,salt,turmeric,chilli,cumin and coriander powder.
  • Cook till tomatoes get mushy and a little more so that the moisture evaporates.


  • Add sauteed lady's finger and garam masala powder and fry for two minutes. 




  • Garnish with Coriander leaves.Enjoy with soft rotis or pulaos.

how to retain the green colour in bhendi?

hi srimathi you can add half tsp of sugar while frying the bhindi it helps retain the colour.bhindi gets cooked fast so do not fry for a long time where it looses its colour.
