Samba Rice Recipe

                                                                              Samba Rice was very  new to me.It is a  rice variety i tasted recently in a temple as prasadam. .I started looking for recipes on the net and could not find much.Finally  found this recipe in Meenakshi ammal's cook book.I think it is very traditional recipe and of course very simple and easy to make.The pepper and cumin seeds in the rice can be really appetizing.I thought I might as well record the recipe and share it with all of you!






You will Need


  • One cup Rice
  • Two tsp Cumin seeds
  • Two tsp Peppercorns
  • One small piece of Dry ginger
  • Salt to taste
  • One tbs of Gingelly oil
  • One tbs of Ghee
  • One tsp Mustard seeds
  • Few Cashew nuts
  • Few Curry Leaves

  • Cook rice in the normal way and spread it on a plate or a bowl.Take cumin seeds,peppercorn and dry ginger in a mixer


  •  Make in to a coarse powder


  •  Pour the powder over the rice


  •  Heat oil and ghee in a small pan crackle mustards seeds,add cashew nuts and let it brown.Throw curry leaves and pour the mixture over the powder on the rice.



  •  Add Salt and mix well.
