Vegetable Momos

I was not aware of Momos when I was a child, but the recent explosion of International cusines has exposed all of us to a lot of cuisines. Though Momos  is not one of my favourites, once in a while I would like to try these new recipes. When I was out for a sale at a hotel, they were selling freshly prepared momos at the entrance and I picked up a few for the kids. That's when I thought I should give it a try and it came out pretty well!
Momos are flour dumplings filled with vegetables and steamed. It is usually served with chilli garlic sauce or dip.It is very easy to make you can soak a few chillies in vinegar for ten minutes then grind it along with a few pods of garlic and add some salt and honey.I added one tomato too, which is purely optional.

You will Need (For the dough)
  • One cup of Maida
  • Half a tsp of Salt
  • Water to knead
  • Oil to knead
For the filling
  • One cup of chopped Cabbage
  • One chopped Carrot
  • Half a Capsicum
  • Two tbs of Chopped Spring Onions
  • Salt to taste
  • Half a tsp Sugar
  • Half a tsp Soy sauce
  • Half a tsp Pepper powder
  • Two tsp Oil
How to
  • Mix Maida or all purpose flour, salt water and knead in to a soft dough.Apply oil on your hands while kneading so that it is not sticky.

  • Chop all the vegetables. Heat oil in a pan, Fry the vegetables in high flame till half cooked. Add salt, pepper, soy sauce and give a good stir and transfer in a separate bowl.

  • Take a small portion of the dough roll it in to a small thin disc and the place one and half tsp of the vegetable filling.

  • Pick up one side of the disc and start closing from all sides like shown in the picture.

  • Repeat for the rest of the dough and place it in steamer and steam it for 5-10 minutes or until the dough becomes translucent.

Enjoy it with any dip of your choice!
