Sweetcorn Paruppu Usili

I think i am posting too many recipes with sweet corn now, yes it is a phase(sweet corn Phase).I love sweet corn i buy the butter corn whenever we go to the malls or the theater.I cannot resist the smell of the corn and butter.
All of us do try a lot of dishes with sweet corn these days.I ate this paruppu usili(lentil curry)with sweet corn in a wedding and it was so good. The spicy lentils and the sweetness in the corn made it lip smacking!I thought it was really new and let me post it on the blog. Here is the recipe....

You will Need

  • Half cup Sweetcorn
  • Half cup Tur dhal
  • Four to six Red chillies
  • A generous pinch of Asafoetida
  • Two tbs of Oil
  • One tsp Mustard seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Few Curry Leaves
For step wise pictures you can check out here Capsicum paruppu usili

How to
  • Wash and soak turdhal, red chillies and few curry leaves in a bowl for half an hour.I always grind the curry leaves and add a few more while tempering.
  • Steam or boil the corn kernels for five minutes.
  • Remove excess water and grind the dhal in to a coarse paste with salt.Do not add water while Grinding.
  • Steam the paste in a steamer or in idli plates for fifteen minutes.
  • Allow it to cool and crumble it in to small bits. You can even put it in the mixer and whisk it for ten seconds if it is hard.
  • Heat oil in a pan crackle mustard seeds, asafoetida and few curry leaves add the corn, and saute for two minutes.
  • Add the crumbled dhal and give it a good mix and saute for few more minutes.Check for salt and add a little more if required.
Enjoy with some hot steaming rice and more kozhambu.
