Kara Sev/Poondu Kara Sev/Garlic Kara sev

Kara Sev is a easy snack prepared during diwali time and not only diwali time almost all round the year.It is a perfect munchy snack any time of the year and day.I remember when we went on a tour abroad one family who traveled with us bought huge packets of Kara sev fried in coconut oil and the aroma used to spread throughout the bus. They used to share with all of us and we all of us enjoyed it through out the tour.

You will Need
  • One cup Besan Flour
  • 1/4 Cup Rice flour
  • One tbs Butter
  • One tsp Chilli powder
  • A pinch of Asafoetida
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil to Deep fry

Garlic Sev
Grind a few pods of garlic for this measurement first and then with a lots of water and mix it while kneading the dough.It. is very popular and tasty i love it but now since i make for diwali i have not added garlic.

How to
1.Gather besan or gram flour, rice flour, softened butter, salt, chilli powder and asafoetida in a wide bowl.
2.Add water and make in to a soft dough like chapathi dough.
3.Apply little oil in the inside of the murukku maker with the three holes plate and gill up some dough.
4.Heat oil and squeeze the murukku maker in circular motion.Do not worry about the shape.flip it after few minutes and cook on both sides till the ssshhhh sound stops.
5.Drain them in to a tissue paper and allow it to cool.
6.Break them in to one inch pieces and store in air tight containers.

Enjoy this easy snack any time with or without Garlic!!!!!!!!

Notes
  • Traditionally they used to make this using the boondhi laddle by rubbing the dough in it but it is a little difficult and this method is safe and good.
  • You can replace finely crushed pepper with chilli powder.I like chilli taste better so i added.
  • Regulate the heat on interwals. When you are squeezing keep it in low then increase to medium and then when you turn the murukku lower the flame again.
